What else do I need besides the Keyball kit?
シェア
Since Keyball emphasizes customizability, you cannot use it as a keyboard simply by purchasing the assembly kit.
Here's a summary of what else you'll need besides the kit.
[What else you need in addition to the Keyball kit]
① Key Switches
Key switches are components that determine the feel and sound when you press a key on the keyboard. Here are the three main types:
Linear: A type that can be pressed smoothly and without any tactile bump.
Tactile: Has a slight "bump" sensation partway through the press, making it easy to feel when an input has registered.
Clicky: Produces a "click" sound when pressed, providing a distinct tactile feedback.
In addition to these, there are key switches with various other characteristics, such as actuation force, key travel, and silent designs.
Shirogane Lab also sells various types of key switches, so please take a look.
② Keycaps
Keycaps are the covers on the keys that you directly touch with your fingers. The appearance and typing feel vary depending on the material and shape.
Materials include PBT, which is durable and pleasant to the touch, and ABS, which offers vivid colors.
There are also differences in shape (profile), which affect how easily your fingers move depending on the key height and angle.
In addition to these, there are keycaps with various other characteristics, such as legends, thickness, and surface finish.
③ Trackball
The trackball, a major feature of Keyball, must be purchased separately.
The trackball used is 32mm in size.
There aren't many types available, so you generally just need to choose a ball in your preferred color.
④ USB Cable
This cable connects the main unit to your PC.
A high-performance one is not necessary. We recommend a cable that supports magnetic connection.
⑤ TRS Cable
This cable connects the left and right keyboards.
Both TRS and TRRS cables can be used.
⑥ ProMicro
This is the "brain" of the Keyball.
Each side is equipped with a Pro Micro, and by flashing the firmware, it can process key inputs and trackball information.
Please purchase a USB cable and Pro Micro with matching connector types.
Keyball's appeal lies in its high customizability, allowing you to freely choose key switches, keycaps, trackballs, and more. While this means you'll need a few extra parts in addition to the kit, there's joy in creating a keyboard with your preferred typing feel and appearance.
Having everything you need ready beforehand will make assembly smooth.
To complete your very own Keyball, please enjoy choosing your parts with care.
We also have a support system in place so that even first-time users can purchase with confidence, so please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
